Bee biodiversity
Brisbane Airport has 30 European honeybee hives located in our Biodiversity Zone. Our BNE hives are the starting point of the northern Brisbane pollination pathway. Bees are a critical part of the survival of many native plants as well as our agricultural species. Flying up to 5kms from their hives, our BNE bees collect flavourful nectars and pollens from mangroves and blossoming native species.
BNE Wetlands Honey
Our bees form a managed ecosystem which pollinate local flora and produce pure BNE Wetlands Honey.
BNE Wetlands Honey is a seasonal reflection of the diversity of flowers found in this coastal wetland pocket, a completely unique taste of Brisbane's Eastern forests.
Our current batch of Wetlands Honey is a mix of the grey leaf Mangrove and tea tree nectar, made from the wetlands Leptospermum flowers over the course of the season.
Bee One Third
Since 2019, Jack Stone from Bee One Third manages the BNE hives and produces our BNE Wetlands Honey. Jack’s mission is to reconnect communities with the reality of what pollinators do for our food system, our health and overall well-being.
