Originally from Mexico, chocolate has made an impact in every part of the globe, so it’s only fair to associate chocolate with traveling. You may find the correlation quite farfetched, but I had to find an excuse to sample the delicious chocolate options available at the airport to write this article celebrating World Chocolate Day (#InvestigativeJournalism).
Besides, you know what they say right? Once you’re at the airport, your holiday has begun, therefore calories don’t count!
So after sacrificing myself in the name of research, here is a list of where to satisfy your sweet tooth at Brisbane Airport.
1. Never-ending supply at New Farm Confectionery
Step into a wonderful store filled with stories and memories, let the smell of cacao transport you into another dimension. Succumb to the temptation and sample the best Parisian-inspired chocolate and confectionery that has been handcrafted with love in the heart of Brisbane at New Farm Confectionery, located in the Domestic Terminal near Gate 25 (after security). With more options than you can find in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this is a definite must-do for all chocolate lovers.
2. Liquid Gold at Newstead Brewing Co & The Aviary
If you’re not after chocolate in its solid form, treat yourself to a delicious milkshake from Newstead Brewing Co, located near Gate 38 (after security), or even go above and beyond with a decadent chocolate thick shake from The Aviary, which is in the Domestic Terminal, near Gate 23 (after security). Brain freeze incoming!
3. Chocolate in doughnut form at Krispy Kreme
Chocolate doughnuts are better consumed by the dozen! Pick up a classic chocolate glazed doughnut, or perhaps branch out on your chocolate expeditions and experiment with choc hazelnut or choc iced sprinkles to sweeten up your journey. For those wanting to share the chocolate-flavoured love - you'll be happy to know - a dozen fit almost too perfectly into the overhead carry-on luggage compartment. Do with this information what you will, but we believe chocolate doughnuts and travel may just be a match made in heaven. Find Krispy Kreme in the Domestic Terminal, near Gate 25 (after security).
4. All you can eat at news@BNE & xpress@BNE
If you haven’t been able to make up your mind by now, simply pop by any of the news@BNE or xpress@BNE stores - there are nine in total located throughout the Domestic Terminal. Head to their snacks section and go crazy, as they each offer a wide variety of chocolate snacks, from Mars bars and Cadbury chocolate blocks to chocolate lollies and everything else in between.
5. Chocolate for your skin at Mecca Maxima
Although this one is a little unconventional and cannot be consumed, chocolate is also a good look for your skin. With the Chocolate Palette from Too Faced, now available at Mecca, treat yourself to a glow-up before your trip. Mecca Maxima is located in the Domestic Terminal near Gate 38 (after security).
6. Baked chocolate goodies at Bound
What better way to celebrate World Chocolate Day than with fluffy cupcakes and decadent brownies? The classic airport coffee and cake stop has never tasted or looked so good. Stock up on caffeine and carbs pre-flight and arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to take on the day. Bound is located in the Domestic Terminal near Gate 23 (after security).
7. Mega chocolate overload at Lotte Duty Free
You know what they say about chocolate; the bigger the better. Duck into Lotte Duty Free to find jumbo Toblerone bars, mega family packs of Tim Tams, and so many Lindt Chocolate options you won't know what to do with them! Find Lotte Duty Free in the International Terminal.
8. Iconic Aussie chocolates at Australian Produce Store
Are you looking to celebrate World Chocolate Day with both the planet's and your own health at front of mind? Pop into Australian Produce Store to find ethically made, sustainably sourced, and healthier chocolate alternatives. With everything from choc-coated macadamias and raspberries to chocolate made with cacao from the Ashaninka community in Peru, there are so many ways to indulge in chocolate's special day without worrying about that post-choc sugar coma. Australian Produce Store is located in the International Terminal on level 3 (after security).
World Chocolate Day is celebrated annually on 7 July (or every day if you're a chocoholic).
9. Pain au chocolat at MICA
Why not celebrate World Chocolate Day the French way. By mixing chocolate and a delicious freshly baked pastry. Head over to MICA the French-inspired patisserie to enjoy a Pan au chocolat (chocolate croissant). You can find MICA near Gate 40.
