Not many can say they have made a runway-sized mark on Brisbane, but that is exactly what David Ferris and the team CV Services are about to do. With construction of Brisbane's new runway on their to-do list, David and his team of electrical infrastructure experts are lighting a path for economic expansion in Brisbane.
As Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Advisor for CV Services, David’s number one priority on every project is keeping his team safe. As far as he’s concerned, safety never takes a holiday, nor does quality assurance, which is good news for the millions of BNE passengers who will rely on the soon-to-be most efficient runway system in Australia, once completed in 2020.
When it comes to lighting and electricals within the 2,700 hectare BNE precinct, CV Services installs, manages and maintains almost every bulb, with the exception of the airfield.
“We’re responsible for maintaining the thousands upon thousands of lights that keep the precinct safe and looking great — there’s a team working around the clock just to keep the lights on!” David said.
As someone who has led a plethora of on-airport projects in his nine years with CV Services, David has seen first-hand the opportunities BNE has sparked for his colleagues and the company.
“The airport’s growth has enabled our company to develop and deliver new service offerings — our fire services, pumping services and electrical maintenance are just a few that have emerged from our work with BNE,” he said.
“The new runway creates more jobs for our tradespeople and managers, and also provides opportunities for new apprentices to kick-start their careers in electrical construction.”
“This type of growth flows onto our supply partners, training providers, and internal support services — it really is a current that flows through the whole economy.”
With an in-born knack for safety and a penchant for making a difference, it’s only natural David enjoys seeing the lasting legacy of his work — not only through the health and safety of his colleagues, but on the glowing footprint of Brisbane’s electrical infrastructure.
“The best part of my job is knowing that everything we build will be used and enjoyed by many generations to come.”
Brisbane Airport's connection with our community runs deep.
